Klondike Solitaire Rules — How to Play and Win
Objective
Klondike is the most famous solitaire in the world. The goal is to build all 52 cards onto four foundation piles — one per suit — each running from Ace up to King.
The Layout
- 7 tableau columns. The first column holds 1 card, the second 2, and so on up to 7 in the seventh column. The top card of each column is face up; the rest are face down.
- Stock pile. The remaining 24 cards sit face down in the top-left corner.
- 4 foundations. Empty piles at the top right, to be filled by suit from Ace to King.
How to Move
- In the columns, cards are built down in alternating colour: a red eight goes on a black nine, a black seven on the red eight, and so on.
- You may move a single card or an entire valid sequence at once.
- Only a King (or a sequence headed by a King) may be placed on an empty column.
- Foundations are built up by suit: Ace → two → ... → King.
- The stock: click it to flip a card into the waste, where it becomes playable. When the stock runs out it recycles (unlimited redeals).
How You Win
The game is won when all four foundations are complete — Ace through King.
Tips and Strategy
- Uncover face-down cards first. More face-up cards means more options.
- Don't rush cards to the foundations. A card may still be useful in the columns for building sequences.
- Empty columns for Kings to gain free space to manoeuvre.
- Use undo to test different lines without losing progress.
Controls
Drag cards with the mouse or your finger. Clicking a card sends it to a foundation automatically when a move is available. Right-click triggers auto-collect. «New game» and «Undo» are on the top bar.
